Two days before her wedding, Lisa contacted me about a commissioned piece for her soon to be husband. We messaged each other that night, and she told me she would like a compass rose. After a couple of sketches, we settled on a design. Her husband is retired from the Navy, so we decided to include navy glass with gold rope encircling the compass rose, to incorporate items from the navy emblem. I messaged her color samples for approval, she agreed to the materials deposit, and I placed a glass order that night! Here are initial sketches and color references: This mosaic was to be a surprise birthday gift, so I had to keep all photos offline. Lisa asked to receive updates, so I sent progress shots, along with clarifying questions, to be sure she was happy and we were on the same page. Here are some of the photos I sent her along the way: The finished mosaic is 22" x 22" and is framed in walnut stained oak. I love it. It was delivered and gifted today, so I can share! This commission was so much fun to work on, and gave me the chance to make a compass rose, which I have been wanting to do for some time! It was also my first time making letters, and after a week of worrying about the best way to make them, I am happy to say, they were a success! Before delivering it, I had my husband take my picture next to it. Excuse my bleary eyed-just-got-back-from-camping-for-3-days-with-3-kids look. I am happy to hear that Lisa's husband loves his gift!

This piece far surpassed my expectations. Agnes was as excited as I was throughout the process. I am thrilled to have found a Maine artist with such talent!
