I went to Swan's Island this weekend to pick up the remainder of my mosaics left over after the exhibition at the Swan's Island Educational Society. I'm happy to say, I did not have many mosaics that I needed to bring home! I did have one mosaic, Crayon Salmon, that I was dropping off on my way through Ellsworth. It went to an amazing teacher that raises Atlantic Salmon eggs in her classroom with her students! They receive eggs from Green Lake National Fish Hatchery, and raise them in a tank. The eggs start out the color of a salmon filet, and then quickly develop 2 little eyes. The students monitor them, and once they are grown enough, they release the salmon fry into the river. What an amazing experience for her students. She saw my Crayon Salmon mosaic online and knew it would be a piece of art she would like to display in her classroom, right above her Salmon tank. I hope her students enjoy the shimmer of the glass, and the bright pop of color in their classroom next year.
